On September 5, 2019, Liburnija d.o.o. held a press conference at which it presented 25 new EURO VI compliant city and local buses with reduced CO2 emission levels and adjustments for persons with disabilities, purchased through AUTOBUS d.o.o., Zagreb, the selected supplier. The total value of the project is HRK 44.9 million, including a HRK 30.6 million EU grant and HRK 5.4 million from the State Budget of the Republic of Croatia.
The press conference was attended by Mr. Josip Bilaver, State Secretary of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Božidar Longin, Zadar County Prefect, Mr. Branko Dukić, Mayor of Zadar, and Mr. Edvin Šimunov, Director of Liburnija d.o.o.
"The city of Zadar and the Zadar County, being "the true champions" in using EU funds, have already implemented a number of projects that have changed Zadar immensely. In addition to the "Purchase of New Buses for Liburnija d.o.o." project, the projects implemented in the transport sector relevant for the Zadar County also include: "Construction of the Tkon Ferry Port – Phase I, Subphase II", "Preparation of the Master Transport Plan for the Northern Dalmatia Functional Region", "Preparation of the Study Documentation for the Modernization of the Knin-Split Section of the M604 Oštarije-Knin-Split, M606 Knin-Zadar and M607 Perković-Šibenik Railway Lines" and "Construction of Annexes to the Sali Town Port on the Island of Dugi otok". The total value of these major projects is approx. HRK 112.6 million, of which approx. HRK 106 million are non-repayable funds," said Josip Bilaver, State Secretary of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.
The purpose of the project, i.e. purchase of new buses for the Zadar region, was to ensure an adequate level of comfort, safety and frequency of transport for the citizens, to improve the overall quality of the public transport service for the citizens on the territory of the city of Zadar and the belonging local self-government units, as well as to ensure public transport sustainability.
"The purchase of 25 new buses is one of the successful examples of how EU funds can be used to improve the standard for our citizens. The implementation of this project will surely contribute to improving the quality of the public transport service for the citizens on the territory of the city of Zadar and the belonging local self-government units. The project shows that, through concerted efforts and with significant support from the Croatian Government, we strive to make each corner of our county a pleasant place to live," said Božidar Longin, Zadar County Prefect.
"Under this EU-funded project, a third of Liburnija’s fleet has been replaced, thus making it the youngest fleet within the Croatian public transport system," said Branko Dukić, Mayor of Zadar, and added that the purchase of 25 buses for Liburnija was the first step in the implementation of a major project called “Zadar Urban Mobility“, which is worth HRK 15 million and envisages integration of an electronic ticketing system into all Liburnija buses, development of a tracking system and a passenger information system to be implemented through digital displays, as well as installation of two smart bus stops equipped with technological solutions.
Edvin Šimunov, Director of Liburnija d.o.o., explained that the new bus purchase project has significantly contributed to the modernization of the entire fleet.
"All new city and local buses include adjustments that ensure accessibility for persons with disabilities and will have a positive environmental impact through a reduction of CO2 emissions (expected reduction: approx. 366 t of CO2 equivalent per year) since the buses are powered by EURO VI compliant engines. With these 25 new buses, Liburnija's fleet has been truly rejuvenated and the quality of the public transport service used by the citizens on the territory of Zadar and the belonging local self-government units has been raised to a whole new level," concluded Edvin Šimunov, Director of Liburnija.
On August 29, 2018, Liburnija d.o.o. signed a Grant Agreement for projects envisaged to be financed through the Funds in the financial period 2014-2020 with the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure and the Central Agency for Finance and Contracting (of EU-funded programs and projects). The purpose of the Agreement is to allocate non-repayable funds for the implementation of a project called "Purchase of New Buses for Liburnija d.o.o.".
The total value of the project is HRK 44,984,820.00, of which HRK 30,559,332.60 is co-funded by the EU.
Purchase of New Buses for Liburnija d.o.o.
The project is co-funded by the European Union through its Cohesion Fund.

The purpose of the project is to ensure a sustainable and quality transport service for the citizens. The new buses will allow for an increase in the quality of the public transport service and will also help reduce the negative impact on the environment by ensuring that the new vehicles are powered by EURO IV emission standard compliant engines.
